Curtain Call

A Fundraiser for the Scranton Cultural Center

Thursday, April 27th, 2023 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm | Grand Ballroom

Honorary Co-Chairs:
Colleen Bender
Michele Conaboy McGrath
Tickets are $100 per Person | $125 per Patron (Please select the correct ticket type when purchasing)

The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic is pleased to announce Curtain Call, a new, project-based fundraiser, designed to support the cost of fabricating and installing a new curtain in our Grand Ballroom.  The current drapery was installed in the early 1990s and was designed and fabricated by MTL Inc., located in Jessup, PA.  We are excited to be working with MTL once again for this project, but substantial funds are needed to complete the design, fabrication and installation as well as upgrades to the operating tracks and mechanisms.  Curtain Call aims to raise these much needed funds with a fun, innovative event hosted in the Grand Ballroom.  Entertainment will be provided by Picture Perfect Band, Daddy-o and the Sax Maniax and Ken McGraw, with a special appearance by the extremely talented young performers of the SCC Youth Theatre Program.  We’ll also host a silent auction while offering a delicious selection of heavy hors d’oeuvres from Constantino’s Catering and a premium open bar.

In a magical kingdom beneath the sea, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above.

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney’s The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including “Under the Sea,” “Kiss the Girl” and “Part of Your World.”

Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

The Airmen of Note is the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Air Force.
Stationed at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington, D.C., it is one of six
musical ensembles that form The U.S. Air Force Band. Created in 1950 to
continue the tradition of Major Glenn Miller's Army Air Forces dance band, the
current band consists of 18 active-duty musicians, including one vocalist.
Through the years, the Airmen of Note has presented its own brand of big band
jazz as well as more contemporary forms of jazz to audiences via annual tours
across the United States, deployments around the world, and local performances
throughout metropolitan Washington D.C.

Their commitment to musical excellence has earned the foremost jazz artists’
respect worldwide, leading to many collaborative performances and recordings
with such luminaries as Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams, Sarah Vaughan, and Doc
Severinsen. In 1990, the Airmen of Note established the Jazz Heritage Series,
featuring the “Note” in concert with legendary icons of jazz. The series
broadcasts to millions over National Public Radio, independent jazz radio
stations, satellite radio services, and the internet. Additionally, the “Note”
produces and delivers recorded music to millions of fans worldwide through
hundreds of media outlets. One of the group’s holiday recordings, “Cool Yule”
reached #2 on the JazzWeek jazz chart.

As part of The U.S. Air Force Band, the Airmen of Note’s mission is to HONOR
those who have served, INSPIRE American citizens to heightened patriotism and
service, and CONNECT with the global community on behalf of the U.S. Air
Force and the United States. The excellence demonstrated by the Airmen of
Note reflects the excellence displayed by all Airmen stationed worldwide, whose
selfless service and sacrifices ensure the freedoms enjoyed by citizens of the
United States of America.

About the Show

The Plastics have deemed Broadway Junior worthy of their presence in Mean Girls JR! This “fetch” musical from book writer Tina Fey (30 Rock), lyricist Nell Benjamin (Legally Blonde) and composer Jeff Richmond (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) is packed with keen wit, an undeniably catchy score, and a sincere message for everyone.

Cady Heron may have grown up on an African savanna, but nothing prepared her for the wild and vicious ways of her strange new home: suburban Illinois. How will this naïve newbie rise to the top of the popularity pecking order? By taking on The Plastics, a trio of lionized frenemies led by the charming but ruthless Regina George. Cady and her friends devise a “Revenge Party” to end Regina’s reign with Cady going undercover as an aspiring Plastic. When the lines between the real Cady and her Plastic self get blurred, she must find her way back to herself and her true friends.

Adapted from Fey’s 2004 blockbuster film and the Broadway smash hit!

Sponsored in part by: National Endowment for the Arts, Michael Straub Photography, Lackawanna County Department of Arts & Culture, PA Council on the Arts and Fidelity Bank.
