The Joe Cirotti Quintet
Dishonest Fiddlers
Kenny Roby and Amy Laber
Andrea Asprelli

Joe Cirotti Quintet

The Joe Cirotti Trio is a well-oiled string band from the shadows of Northwest Jersey’s Appalachian ridge.

In 2015, Joe Cirotti, Mike Alexander, and Pete Lister’s respective multi instrumentalist upbringings fused with a collective passion for the roots of American folk, country, and bluegrass music.

In this way the trio’s bond is rooted in proximity, strengthened by a blue-collar passion for picking, and buoyed by their shared propensity for cigarettes and whiskey.

Timmy Coyle has filled in for Mike since 2021 on multiple instruments, and they now occasionally play in tandem when the band plays as a quartet.

The group also appears in various quartet and quintet line-ups, incorporating percussion or drums (or fiddle.. or dobro) into the arrangements.

The Dishonest Fiddlers

A “GOOD TIME STRING BAND” from Northeast Pennsylvania, THE DISHONEST FIDDLERS pick through a mixed bag of folk, bluegrass, and jug band inspired music.

Led by singer/songwriter Dave Brown (guitar/harmonica), the band features: Shawn Caden (mandolin/guitar), Jasper Paciotti (bass) and Jami Novak (percussion).

Since forming in 2013, the band has released 3 studio albums and have played at music festivals and theatres throughout the Northeast.

Kenny Roby and Amy Laber

A songwriter’s songwriter, Kenny Roby has been called a master at his craft. Roby’s new home in upstate New York, touching on the spirit of previous artists who
once roamed the the Catskill Mountains like The Band, Bobby Charles and Tim Hardin.  A native of the Carolinas, Kenny Roby was originally known for fronting 6 String Drag, pioneers in the Alt-Country and Americana music movements of the '90s. The band was produced by roots music godfather Steve Earle and signed to his E-Squared Records. Since 6 String Drag’s breakup in 1998, Roby has released 6 solo records as well as a live duo record with Neal Casal. Kenny Roby has been praised by numerous songwriting peers, including Michael Hurley, Citizen Cope and Ryan Adams. He’s garnered critical acclaim in Billboard, Rolling Stone, No Depression and Boston Globe, while having shared stages with a plethora of well-known artists in and out of the roots music community.

Longtime Hudson Valley-based troubadour Amy Laber’s music is a potent reminder of the power of simplicity, the depth of country soul and the magic of an open heart. In his review of her album “Mountainside Wildflower,” Seth Rogovoy of Chronogram says, “Amy Laber’s vision of country music digs deep beyond superficialities of form and twang to the bedrock of soul music with a lower-case “s”—which, if you think about it, is what powers great music of any kind. Laber displays plenty of soul here, in her haunting vocals, which connect Loretta Lynn to Patti Smith; in her reliance on modal drones and in her resonant writing about life and love and nature and music itself.”

Together, Amy and Kenny perform a mix of their original tunes as well as traditional
American folk music.

Andrea Asprelli

Andrea Asprelli is based out of Brooklyn, NY and writes, sings, and plays fiddle and banjo. Formerly of Cricket Tell the Weather, she has released two albums of original music, as well as the Masters Radio Volume 1, a compilation of live recordings from the Masters Radio concert series. She plays freelance with the Brooklyn Bluegrass Collective, Karen and the Sorrows, and others. She performs duo under her name with guitarist and collaborator Jason Borisoff.

The 5th Annual String Fling is sponsored by UGI Utilities and LT Verrastro. Supported by Lackawanna County and the PA Council on the Arts.

Froggy 101’s Guitars & Stars
Featuring

Joe Nichols joenichols.com

Joe Nichols has been a mainstay of country music for two decades, bridging the gap between the genre’s old-school roots and contemporary era. He’s a 21st century traditionalist — an artist who’s both timely and timeless, racking up a half-dozen Number 1 singles and ten Top 10 hits with a sound that honors his heroes. From his first radio smash, 2002’s “The Impossible,” to 2021’s Home Run,” Nichols has proudly done things his own way, blurring the boundaries between country music’s past and present along the way.

Conner Smith connersmithmusic.com

Just 23 years old and already a seasoned veteran of Nashville’s elite songwriting community, Conner Smith has emerged as one of Country’s most hotly-anticipated artists – one knows the past can still inspire the present, and good things come to those who wait. An uncommon talent mixing prime-of-life passion with old-soul perspective, the rising singer/songwriter has spent 15 years matching a honeyed vocal to propulsive hints of bluegrass and the warmth of ‘90s Country, an instant-classic sound infused with riveting modern appeal. Moving Country forward while remembering its all-natural roots, Smith’s long-anticipated full-length debut album SMOKY MOUNTAINS (The Valory Music Co.), out now, is meant to stand the test of time. Featuring GOLD-certified “Take It Slow,” viral hit “I Hate Alabama” and current Top-15-and-climbing single “Creek Will Rise,” his deeply personal 12-song project is one of classic style and contemporary spirit, and a reflection of the artist himself. These songs, among others, laid an artistic foundation that earned Smith Artist to Watch status from Spotify, Amazon Music and Opry NextStage, while also making him the only Country artist on Pandora’s Ten List 2022 and secured 2023 recognition from MusicRow Next Big Thing and CMT Listen Up as well as joining the CRS New Faces Class of 2024. Deemed “an unstoppable force to be reckoned with” by CMT, Smith’s authentic storytelling and rich, soulful voice has resonated with audiences nationwide, earning him a dedicated and passionate following. Recently touring alongside some of Country’s biggest artists including Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell, Chase Rice and Jordan Davis, the “future entertainer of the year” (Morning Hangover) continues to put on his signature “high energy fan forward show” (All Country News) while headlining his CREEK WILL RISE TOUR through February 24 in the US before traveling across the pond for C2C Festival in March, joining CMA’s Introducing Nashville lineup for performances throughout the U.K. and Europe.

Runaway June runawayjune.com

Proclaimed by Billboard as the “Next Hot Trend in Country Music” and likened to The Chicks for a new generation, Runaway June is comprised of Stevie Woodward (lead vocals/guitar/harmonica/piano), Natalie Stovall (vocals/fiddle/guitar), and Jennifer Wayne (vocals/guitar). The trio’s “inescapable talent” (AXS.com) is multiplied by their seamlessly rich, organic harmonies and fiery, western-rooted bluegrass sound. The “Next Women of Country” (CMT) have earned praise from Billboard, Rolling Stone Country, The Huffington Post, Paste, People and more. They’ve made numerous national TV appearances including TODAY, GMA and CMA Country Christmas and have been nominated for ACM Awards and CMT Awards.

Due to their electrifying live show, Runaway June has performed at Stagecoach, C2C Country To Country, and on some of the biggest tours in country music, opening for superstars like Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Alan Jackson and Carrie Underwood. Honored as a coveted “New Face” at the 2020 Country Radio Seminar, the BBR Music Group / Wheelhouse Records trio’s Top 5 single, “Buy My Own Drinks” was the highest charting song by a female group since The Chicks in 2003. Their debut album Blue Roses (2019) received critical acclaim and was included on Rolling Stone’s and Paste Magazine’s best albums of the year lists. Most recently on tour with Luke Bryan’s 2021 Proud To Be Right Here Tour, the award-nominated trio’s bright, rootsy new EP, backstory, is out now.

Matt Stell mattstell.com

It’s an insight the Arkansas native has long taken to heart. In his case, heroes and influences stretch from Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, through Alanis Morissette and Oasis, to Miranda Lambert and Jason Isbell. But through the endless one-nighters, opening slots, and writers’ rooms that constitute paying dues, he learned what true artists always learn—that the best tribute is not imitation but transformation—finding the place inside that connects with those influences and turns them into a unique and honest voice. He has learned that lesson well.

“The music I make now is mine because I believe it and it’s true,” he says. “That’s what I can contribute, and that’s how I see myself fitting in. The currency of the realm is authenticity, and I think there’s room for mine.”

That’s something he proved with back-to-back #1s that put him in the forefront of this era’s artist-songwriters, and he proves it again with One Of Us, an EP that establishes him as an artist of real depth and vision.

The breakthrough came with the 2X PLATINUM “Prayed For You,” the only debut single to top the Billboard Country Airplay chart in 2019. The PLATINUM follow-up, “Everywhere But On,” made him one of just a handful of new artists to hit the top twice in a row in six years. In the process, he racked up more than half a BILLION total global streams across his catalog while surpassing 27 million views alone for the official music video for “Prayed For You.”

Chase Matthew chasematthew.com

Since releasing his debut album, Born For This, earlier this year, Matthew has been busy selling out venues across the nation on his headline ‘Born For This’ Tour, recently making his hometown headline debut in Nashville to a SOLD-OUT crowd of more than 1,600 fans. His single, “She Loves Jesus,” is out now, and fans can expect more new music from this Nashville riser in the coming months.

A Prairie Home Companion 50th Anniversary Tour

GARRISON KEILLOR CRISSCROSSES THE U.S. WITH
A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION’S 50th ANNIVERSARY TOUR

Almost 50 years ago, Garrison Keillor hosted the first broadcast of A Prairie Home Companion, and the perennially popular weekly radio show remained on the air with its music, comedy sketches, and accounts of life in tiny Lake Wobegon (where the women are strong, the men are good-looking, and the children are all above average).
Since the show ended, the author and humorist has continued to take the stage at venues nationwide — much to the delight of legions of fans.
In the coming months, Keillor takes A Prairie Home Companion’s 50th Anniversary Tour across the U.S., leading up to the half-century milestone in the summer of 2024.

Each show packed with stories, music, the one-of-a-kind audience sing-along intermission, Keillor’s musings on the topic of CHEERFULNESS, and the fan-favorite News from Lake Wobegon, Joining Garrison are charming singer-actor Christine DiGiallonardo, dazzling vocalist Heather Masse, the ever-popular Royal Academy of Actors (Tim Russell, Sue Scott, and sound-effects wizard Fred Newman), music director/keyboardist Richard Dworsky, and others to be announced.

Born in 1942 in Anoka, Minnesota, Garrison Keillor developed a love of writing in childhood. “I started out with a No. 2 pencil and pads of paper, then acquired an Underwood manual typewriter with a faint F and a misshapen O,” he says. Five years after getting a job in public radio “doing the 6 a.m. shift Monday to Friday, because nobody else wanted to get up so early,” he wrote a piece for The New Yorker about the Grand Ole Opry and got the idea to launch A Prairie Home Companion.
These days, his in-person humor-filled shows are a treat for folks young and not-so-young. He has written dozens of books —including novels, a book of sonnets, a collection of limericks, a memoir, a political homily, and most recently, Cheerfulness. His biweekly online column can be found on Substack.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy

Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 at 7:30pm

Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Theatre | Doors at 7:00pm | Reserved Seating Only

April, 2023, marked the 30 year anniversary of Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s remarkable arrival onto the music scene. Since its formation in the early nineties in Ventura, California, the band has toured virtually nonstop, performing on average over 150 shows a year, and has produced a sizable catalog of recorded music, with sales of over 2 million albums to date. Early on, during their legendary residency at the Derby nightclub in Los Angeles, they reminded the world, in the midst of the grunge era no less, that it was still cool to swing. The band, co-founded by singer Scotty Morris and drummer Kurt Sodergren, was at the forefront of the swing revival of that time, blending a vibrant fusion of the classic American sounds of jazz, swing, and dixieland, with the energy and spirit of contemporary culture. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s all original core line-up includes Scotty Morris (lead vocals and guitar), Kurt Sodergren (drums), Dirk Shumaker (double bass and vocals), Andy Rowley
(baritone saxophone and vocals), Glen “The Kid” Marhevka (trumpet), Karl Hunter (saxophones and clarinet) and Joshua Levy (piano and arranger).

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s efforts to promote and revitalize swing music have taken shape as much more than a simple tribute. Taking inspiration from the creators of this uniquely American art form, the band’s original horn-infused music and legendary high energy show introduces the genre to a new and younger generation while remaining cognizant and respectful of the music’s rich legacy.

Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s first phase of stardom featured an appearance in the 1996 indie film Swingers, a movie that not only launched the careers of Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau, but introduced Big Bad Voodoo Daddy to an audience beyond their Los Angeles base. The band’s music has appeared in countless films and television shows, including The Wild, Despicable Me, Phineas & Ferb, Friends, Third Rock From The Sun, Ally McBeal, and So You Think You Can Dance.
