UNDERGROUND MICROPHONE

Presented by Toyota of Scranton

Featured performers: Dave Brown (Guest Host), Tim McGurl, Bob Alunni and Western Skyline!

Dave Brown is a solo folksinger and songwriter from Northeast Pennsylvania. He also leads a string band called “The Dishonest Fiddlers” who are underway with their 2nd Studio Album. When the band is off, Dave works during the day at St. Joseph’s Center in Dunmore, PA as a Direct Care Aide.

Tim McGurl has been a Professional Musician, Singer/Songwriter for over 48 years. His musical career spans decades, since the late 1960’s. Tim has performed as a solo artist, as well as being a member of many bands from the Northeast, including: The Magic Bus; WhiskeyCreek; Karma Farm; Dead Branch Band; Mo’ Holiday; Bogart; The Relics; and later on becoming a founding member of The Village Idiots, one of the more popular N.E.P.A. jam-bands. Tim’s current band is Horse Spirit.
Early in his career, Tim lived in Leuven, Belgium in the mid 1970’s and performed in Europe’s clubs and cafes in Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and Barcelona; and was featured in several live concerts broadcast over Belgian National TV & Radio, and, here on local PBS and NPR. He has interwoven many musical styles and genres, into his own original compositions, drawing from traditional Americana Folk and Folk-Rock, to acoustic and electric Traditional British-Isles tunes, to the Blues.

Spanning his career, Tim has taken the helm, either solo, or with his bands, as an opening act for: The Buckinghams; “Mama” Cass Elliot; Tracy Nelson and Mother Earth; The Glass Prism; Eric Anderson; John Hammond; Billy Preston and New Riders Of The Purple Sage.
In his solo performances, Tim incorporates several variously-tuned acoustic guitars, including a vintage Martin D-28, Martin OM-28e-Retro, Epiphone EJ200-Jumbo and a Gibson Hummingbird.

You can “watch” his original videos, and covers of his favourite artists, on his “Tim McGurl YouTube Channel”; and “listen” on his “Tim McGurl Soundcloud Site.”

Bob Alunni
A believer in staying to make things better, Bob is rooted in Northeast PA. His writing and music style is heavily influenced by acoustic greats such as Neil Young. His interests aside from music are gardening, books and writing.

Western Skyline
Western Skyline offers a combination of alt-country, folk, rock and blues.
