Farm Arts Collective Presents…

“Dream on the Farm”

Saturday, February 26th, 2022

Farm Arts Collective, an ensemble of actors, stilt-walkers, farmers, musicians, and scientists based on Willow Wisp Organic Farm in Damascus, PA performs Dream on the Farm, one of 10 performances that the theatre group is developing from 2020-2030 that examines the climate crisis.
Directed by artistic director and organic farmer Tannis Kowalchuk, Dream on the Farm was featured in the New York Times and was originally performed across the 30 acre vegetable farm in summer 2021. Audiences in Scranton can now see the hour-long all ages performance indoors performed by the Farm Arts Collective actors, stilt walkers, and musicians.
The entertaining and fast-paced musical performance follows two scientists, astronomer Carl Sagan and microbiologist Lynn Margulis who are called back from the after-life to compete in a match to see whose science– micro or macro, can help save the planet from climate change disaster.
The two scientists journey and encounter microbes, insects and earth systems (hydrosphere, atmosphere) and in the play’s conclusion, present their points of view–Dr. Margulis from a perspective viewed by her microscope, and Dr. Sagan from the telescope. In the end both scientists agree that it will take both a macro and a micro point of view to solve global and local climate change issues.
Performances are followed with a Q and A with the artists and scientists of Farm Arts Collective.
CREDITS
Directed by Tannis Kowalchuk
Co-Directed and Dramaturgy by Mimi McGurl
