Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, Jr., based on the beloved book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, will come to life on the SCC’s Historic Main Stage as campers of all ages unite for this memorable FULL CAMP production! The show tells the story of young Charlie Bucket who, against all odds, lands himself the opportunity of a lifetime: a chance to tour the famed and mysterious Chocolate Factory of candymaker, Willy Wonka! What starts out as the best day of young Charlie’s life ends as one that will change his life FOREVER! Young performers won’t want to miss out on this opportunity that is certain to be SCRUMDIDDLYUMPTIOUS and create EVERLASTING memories!

The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder in addition to a host of fun new songs, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR. is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth.
Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR. follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory – or suffer the consequences.

NEPA native and legendary band leader from Saturday Night Live and Live Aid, GE Smith has also played guitar for Hall & Oates, Bob Dylan, and just completed the Roger Waters – The Wall Live World Tour. He’s among rock royalty and also played with David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Hot Tuna and Tina Turner.
Jim Weider, who is best known for The Band, Levon Helm Band and The Weight Band, is a master of classic telecaster and traditional blues slide guitar techniques. A Woodstock NY native, he’s one of a select group of musicians to have an endorsement from Fender, and has built an international reputation among fellow musicians worldwide.
DC–based Blues King and Powerhouse front man, Tom Principato has been setting the telecaster on fire all across the globe with some of the finest performers for over 25 years. With twenty albums under his belt, he’s had endorsement deals with Fender, Seymour Duncan pick ups and Roger Mayer guitar effects pedals.

WHAT: SEASON SEAT SELECTION – Broadway in Scranton hosts an Open House and encourages fans to visit the Scranton Cultural Center between 11am and 9pm to walk thru the theatre, see what seats are available and then personally choose their seat for their 2018 – 2019 season ticket.
Broadway In Scranton staff will be on hand to answer any questions on the seating and season ticket options.
FIRST FRIDAY – The Scranton Cultural Center will be one of the venues for First Friday activities in partnership with the Bonfire at the Iron Furnaces. There will also be a DJ playing show tunes from Broadway in Scranton’s upcoming season and highlighting musical theatre from 6-9 p.m.
