
The Scranton Cultural Center’s Youth Theatre Summer Camp Program will
present LEGALLY BLONE THE MUSICAL, JR!

Based on the award-winning Broadway musical and the smash hit motion picture, Legally BlondeThe Musical JR. is a fabulously fun journey of self-empowerment and expanding horizons. The show’s instantly recognizable songs are filled with humor, wit and sass – leaving cast members and audiences alike seeing pink!
Legally Blonde JR. follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. When Elle’s high school boyfriend, Warner, dumps her and heads to Harvard, claiming she’s not “serious” enough, Elle takes matters into her own hands, crafting a showy song-and-dance personal essay and charming her way into law school. Befriending classmate, Emmett, and spunky hairdresser, Paulette, along the way, Elle finds that books and looks aren’t mutually exclusive. As Elle begins outsmarting her peers, she realizes that law may be her natural calling after all.

Little Dragon campers will get a taste of show business as they perform hit songs straight from Broadway! These budding young stars will learn music and choreography from beloved musicals and create visual arts projects inspired by the Great White Way! The session will culminate with a showcase and visual art show for family and friends!

Perfect for brand new OR seasoned performers, this session offers new and exciting experiences from the world of Musical Theatre! During this session, students will complete challenging workshops with a series of professional theatre artists. They’ll get a taste of playwriting, stage combat, specialized acting, vocal and dance techniques, all leading up to a final presentation for family and friends!

Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka, Jr., based on the beloved book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, will come to life on the SCC’s Historic Main Stage as campers of all ages unite for this memorable FULL CAMP production! The show tells the story of young Charlie Bucket who, against all odds, lands himself the opportunity of a lifetime: a chance to tour the famed and mysterious Chocolate Factory of candymaker, Willy Wonka! What starts out as the best day of young Charlie’s life ends as one that will change his life FOREVER! Young performers won’t want to miss out on this opportunity that is certain to be SCRUMDIDDLYUMPTIOUS and create EVERLASTING memories!

present ROALD DAHL’S WILLY WONKA, JR!

The delicious adventures experienced by Charlie Bucket on his visit to Willy Wonka’s mysterious chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl’s fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder in addition to a host of fun new songs, Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR. is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth.
Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka JR. follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whomever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy. Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka’s rules in the factory – or suffer the consequences.

Located in the Lower Level, the Raymond Hood Room is transformed into a listening room café where artists and their work are respected and supported. This very special space is named after the architect who designed the Scranton Cultural Center in the 1920s. Hood is widely known for his Art Deco and Neo Gothic design style which is evident throughout the entire building. Nationally recognized works include 30 Rockefeller Plaza, American Radiator Building, Daily News, The Emporis, Tribune Tower and The Ocean Forest Hotel in Myrtle Beach among others.
