Bright Star’s professional actors bring to life the stories of “The Tortoise and the Hare,” “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” “The Fox and the Grapes,” “The Lion and the Mouse” and “The Monkey and Her Pail.” Brimming with audience participation and character education, this production celebrates the moral lessons available in each of these charming tales. Johnny is a big fan of school but that all changes when the new kid, Gabe, arrives. Gabe doesn’t speak any English and that doesn’t stop Johnny from going out of his way to be unkind. What will Johnny do when Gabe starts to make new friends? Will he join the fun of making a new friend or turn the other way? Johnny realizes a powerful message in this story where student differences are celebrated.

Learn at Home.  Dance Together.  Thrill the World!

HELP KEEP THE ARTS UNDEAD IN NEPA!  Thrill the World is a global fundraising event, held on the same date/time around the world in attempt to break the World Record for the “Largest Simultaneous Dance to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller!'”  Sign up TODAY to be a zombie dancer and participate in one of the most exciting events in Scranton!  All proceeds benefit the Scranton Cultural Center!

Registration:

Register online (preferred) or at the event! 
Because of current circumstances, registration fees are WAIVED for Thrill the World Scranton, PA 2020.  Donations of any size to support the Scranton Cultural Center will be gratefully accepted!

Learn the Dance:

There will be no public dance lessons for Thrill the World Scranton, PA 2020.  Instead, participants are encouraged to learn the dance at home via the step-by-step Thrill the World Tutorials on YouTube! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=heEFEOfAn4k)  There are in-depth breakdowns of each section of choreography available so that anyone can learn the dance at any time, ANYWHERE – even at home.  We will have a few opportunities to rehearse the dance before the official record-breaking attempt.  Remember – Thrill the World is open to dancers of all skill levels.  The most important thing is to HAVE FUN!

Day of the Event:
NOTE: Masks will be required at all times to participate.

The event will be held OUTSIDE of the Scranton Cultural Center, located at 420 N. Washington Avenue in Scranton, PA.  We will convene beginning at 5:00 PM.  On the day of the event, participants are encouraged to come in their best zombie or Halloween inspired look, but it’s not required.  You’ll check in with the SCC team (for reporting purposes) and we’ll have a few opportunities to practice the dance before the official world record attempt.  The dance will be live-streamed on the Scranton Cultural Center Facebook page, so please encourage family and friends to cheer you on from home.

Working with local partners from the arts and entertainment industry, our family-friendly show will feature performances in voice, dance, theatre, and music from local artists. In addition to providing a fun and safe evening of entertainment for local families, our goal with this event is to raise funds in support of the ongoing operations of our organization.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had daunting effects on the Cultural Center and the arts industry at large. This event will help to support our operations, support local artists, and showcase the wonderful, diverse talent from our area.

The hour-long production features performances from the Scranton Fringe Festival, Scranton Shakespeare Festival, New Vintage Ensemble, Newave Dance Company, Flashmilk Productions, Michele Conaboy McGrath, Stephen Murphy, Erin Malloy, Mike Mizwinski, Roy Williams, Mariah Hawley and the Scranton Cultural Center Youth Theatre Program. Chris Bohinski, of WBRE’s PA Live!, and Camille Reinecke, SCC Youth Theatre Program Director, serve as the evening’s emcees.

Unicorns, dragons and mermaids, oh my!  Our young performers will flex their creativity and imagination during this magical camp session.  Campers will develop their skills as performers and visual artists while making art inspired by their favorite mythical creatures!  At the end of the session, campers will present an original musical showcase and visual art show for friends and family!

Young performers won’t want to miss this TOTALLY RAD camp session!  Based on the cult-classic film and Broadway musical, Xanadu, Jr. follows the journey of a magical Greek muse, Kira, who descends from Mount Olympus to Venice Beach, CA, on a quest to inspire struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time…the first ROLLER DISCO!  (It IS the 80s, after all!)  Xanadu, Jr. is a moving, electrifying tale of endless fun that will keep audiences in stitches while the original, legendary chart-topping tunes lift them out of their seats.

TWO PERFORMANCES + STREAMING! Friday, July 30 at 7 PM, Saturday, July 31 at 11 AM on the Main Stage! This production will be available to stream after the show!

ABOUT OUR VIRTUAL SUMMER CAMPS
Little Dragon Playhouse Campers will develop their skills as artists and get creative with friends during these interactive, virtual sessions. During each week-long session, campers will participate in a daily arts-based workshop based on the theme of the week! Teaching artists will lead campers through games, exercises and activities in the arts areas of Theatre, Dance, Music and Visual Arts!  At the end of every exciting week, we will celebrate with a Theme Day, including games, trivia and of course, themed attire is encouraged! Upon registering and submitting payment, all participants will receive invitations and instructions for joining the virtual classes. All necessary supplies for weekly projects and activities will be provided by the SCC.  Arrangements for supply pack pick-up or delivery will be made prior to the start date of each session!
