2021! (Note: there will be no UGM on November 3 and 24, December 29 and January 5.)
To request to perform: http://bit.ly/UGMSignUp
For anyone interested in performing: there are no rules. We encourage free form prose, poetry, stand up, improv and original music. There is no better place to debut new material or projects.

We will continue where we left off in June, presenting as a virtual live stream on our Facebook page (facebook.com/sccmt) from the Raymond Hood Room located in the Lower Level. Once restrictions are lifted, and we know it’s safe, we’ll reopen the doors to our live audience. So, for now, UGM will remain a virtual live stream played for an online audience only. We’ll keep you all posted as things change.

To learn more about the Scranton Cultural Center, visit SCCMT.org or follow us on Facebook at facebook.com/sccmt.

As always, there is no cover to enjoy the entertainment at Underground Mic, whether it’s in person or virtual. But, we ask that you might consider making a donation in support of the Scranton Cultural Center. If you’re a UGM regular, maybe you might consider donating the cost of your favorite beverage. If you’re new to UGM and tuning in because you’re missing the live music scene, consider making a donation in the amount of what you might pay at the door at your favorite live music venue. If you’re not in a position to make a donation, just enjoy the show!

Any amount helps and will enable us to continue offering virtual programming, like this, while we are closed due to government restrictions and once we are given the green light to welcome you safely back to our facility again.

We thank you for your consideration!

JAMES BARRETT

James Barrett’s “before” looks a lot like yours. After releasing his debut LP The Price of Comfort, the Scranton singer-songwriter moved onto his next planning phase, stuck between eras labeled by plaintive acoustic tracks and the ringing clarity of a full-band effort. In October 2019, Barrett began writing what would become his sophomore record. It’s a love letter to the hushed splendor of The National and the spaced-out bombast of Angels & Airwaves, embellished with a theatrical identity boosted by live strings, horns, and good friend Amanda Rogan lending vocals to many moments. Barrett intends to release the record later in 2021.

HARMONY WOODS

Harmony Woods has always been about dynamics. When this Philly project began a
regional rail stop away, Sofia Verbilla wrote songs about the ways people see each other on either end of disaster. Across two records that spoke to the quietest of bleeding hearts, Verbilla expanded on processing grief, trauma, and other aftermaths while her band climbed and collapsed around her, turning ordinary circumstances into visceral reflections.
GRACEFUL RAGE—the band’s third LP—basks in the sheer magnitude of letting
revelations and recoveries blossom on their own terms. Produced by Bartees Strange, it’s an extension of trademarks and an exploration of new ground. Verbilla often lets moments stack and shiver like a wobbly house of cards, and the sparse vocal-led freeze of opener “Good Luck Rd.” continues that trusted thread. But it’s in the explosive nuance of tracks like “God’s Gift to Women,” a smoky and jagged pop-punk sneer, where Harmony Woods jets far from their most comfortable alcoves. What’s found in this growth is resolve and power, snug behind a radio-ready punch.
Across stopovers in pop-country’s swaying embrace (“Rittenhouse”), tear-stained calls for absolution (“Easy”), and the lockstep of booming percussion (“Holding You to You”), GRACEFUL RAGE regains footholds on forgotten pathways, shouldering the pain but destroying the doubt that smolders in its wake. It’s Harmony Woods at their most aware and assured, where towering relief and welcome confidence have finally converged..

A FIRE WITH FRIENDS

A Fire With Friends have been independently recording, producing, and
performing their unique mix of indie-rock, math-rock, and alternative music
for over a decade. Together the six-piece NEPA band have toured the
east coast and midwest, sharing the stage with both local and national
acts.

BEST OF THE EAGLES:
A Tribute to the music of The Eagles
BOTE is the most exact interpretation of the music of the Eagles in America, bar none! Each member mirrors his counterpart in the Eagles instrumentally and vocally. However, this is no simple copy band or impersonator act but rather a group of excellent musicians who expertly and authentically re-create the songs, the music, the vocals and the magical aura of one of America’s greatest rock bands. After selling out many venues in the region including the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, NJ, BOTE looks forward to sharing a great night of Eagles hits.
