The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple is excited to introduce Jazz in the Hood Room with Tyler Dempsey!

Each month, we welcome NEPA’s diverse jazz audiences to join us as we present live jazz performances from the finest local, regional and nationally renowned artists. Hosted by Tyler Dempsey on the third Tuesday of each month, he will feature revolving artists from NYC, NJ, Poconos and Delaware Water Gap.

Tyler began studying classical percussion privately at a local university and recognized his overwhelming passion for jazz music. He decided it was time to seriously pursue the artform and began jazz studies with renowned jazz musician and organizer of the Scranton Jazz Festival, Marko Marcinko. Tyler then went on to study with Tim Horner and Mark Sherman at New Jersey City University. While living in New Jersey he began performing with his own groups in numerous NYC venues. He later transferred to Penn State University, where his musical growth continued through the instruction and guidance of Ian Froman, David Liebman, Bill Goodwin, and Adam Nussbaum to name a few.

Tyler has performed with many great artists including but not limited to: David
Liebman, Bob Dorough, Chase Baird, Joe Magnarelli, Joe Locke, Billy Test, Matt
Vashlishan, Clarence Spady, Jon Ballantyne, Adam Niewood, Tony Marino, Jim Ridl, Nate Birkey, Bill Washer, Ron Oswanski, and Porter & Sayles. In 2013-14, Tyler had the opportunity to play with the Jesse Lynch Trio on their nation-wide Jazz 101 educational tour.

A note from the Scranton Cultural Center…

As always, there is no cover to enjoy the entertainment at Underground Mic, whether it’s in person or virtual. But, we ask that you might consider making a donation in support of the Scranton Cultural Center. If you’re a UGM regular, maybe you might consider donating the cost of your favorite beverage. If you’re new to UGM but a big fan of the local music scene, consider making a donation in the amount of what you might pay at the door at your favorite live music venue. If you’re not in a position to make a donation, just enjoy the show!
We thank you for your consideration!

JAMES BARRETT

James Barrett’s “before” looks a lot like yours. After releasing his debut LP The Price of Comfort, the Scranton singer-songwriter moved onto his next planning phase, stuck between eras labeled by plaintive acoustic tracks and the ringing clarity of a full-band effort. In October 2019, Barrett began writing what would become his sophomore record. It’s a love letter to the hushed splendor of The National and the spaced-out bombast of Angels & Airwaves, embellished with a theatrical identity boosted by live strings, horns, and good friend Amanda Rogan lending vocals to many moments. Barrett intends to release the record later in 2021.

Hailed as “New England’s Best Beatles Tribute Band” by The British Beer Company, Beatles tribute band, Studio Two, continues its tour in celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Beatles coming to America.

Studio Two is a headlining Beatles band that pays tribute to the early Beatles years, choosing songs from the pre-Sgt. Pepper era.

Featuring graduates from Berklee College of Music and Beatles devotees, Studio Two band mates met in a “cellar full of noise” in a town slightly west of Liverpool (Milford, New Hampshire!) to pay homage to the greatest rock band of all time.

Band members are experienced musicians of today’s generation dedicated to preserving the memory and fan culture of The Beatles generation.

By recreating the Fab Four’s music, appearance, instruments, and onstage banter, Studio Two performs your most favorite hits that will bring people to the dance floor.

Studio Two has performed at numerous large and small venues, from large open-air festivals to nightclubs.
