Featured performers: Neil Nicastro (Guest Host) with Jon Ventre and Steve Kurilla and Kat N’ Randy!

Neil Nicastro: Neil Nicastro is a professional musician who recently released his second solo album, “For Escaping.” Previously, he played in local bands such as the Collective and the Five Percent.

He’s performed in 42 states, solo and with a 10 piece ensemble, in front of crowds as large as 15,000 and to smaller more intimate groups of 15.  His approach for every gig is with the same goal:  to spread his love and passion for music.

Neil also gives music lessons at Neil Nicastro Music, Entertainment and Instruction in Dunmore and offers DJ services for weddings and special events. Nicastro is a native of Dunmore and graduated from Dunmore High School. He later studied at Penn State University and East Stroudsburg University, where he earned a degree in physiology. He and his wife, Erin, have two children, Santino, 9, and Paloma, 7. They live in Dunmore.

Kat N’ Randy: Hello Everyone! We are Kat N’ Randy, an acoustic duo that can play anything from jazz to current hits. Very versitile, high energy duo with a professional attitude and reliable habits. 🙂 Kat and Randy met a couple of years ago at a local gig venue and quickly discovered that not only do they share a love for music and performing but also that they live practically next door to each other. What a small world! An awesome music relationship was born!

Kat (aka Ekat), born in St. Petersburg, Russia, overcame her stage fright with the help of local theater group and began pursuing live music performances since her unplanned studio work as a backup singer in 2012 for a band she never met with before. Ekat became a member of this band and together they opened for Bad Company concert in the summer of 2013 in front of thousands. Since then Ekat was part of a number of local music projects as a guest singer as well as the lead. Randy Light, an amazing guitar player, grew up in the Appalachian hills of southeastern Ohio and has been perfecting his finger picking skills for years. Randy learned piano at an early age from his mother who is a jazz musician. Randy has played bluegrass swing, jump jive, roots rock and roll, country, Irish and Americana music. Randy has warmed up National acts such as Mickey Gilley, Bobby Bare and worked with music professionals who were in C&C Music Factory, The Uppity Blues Women, and Noel Redding.

Jon Ventre: Jon is an accomplished, Electric/Acoustic bassist out of NEPA.  In the last 14 years, he has performed in almost every position available in the professional music world.  From Showband’s and Symphony Orchestras to National Festivals and Night Clubs.

Aside from being self-taught, Jon has studied under internationally known solo bassist Dr. Sandor Ostlund.  Most of all Jon attributes most of his musical accomplishments to the many wonderful musicians he’s had the pleasure of working with throughout his career.  Most gigs include much work as a sideman throughout the Northeastern PA region.  One particular artist to name would be nationally known Blues guitarist and WC Handy Award nominee Clarence Spady.  Jon has also backed up internationally known Broadway vocalist Debbie Gravitte with the NEPA Philharmonic Orchestra.  Aside from that, most of his experience lies within his 5 years aboard Carnival Cruise Lines.

On top of being a performing musician, Jon has also taught private bass and music instruction for many years.

Steve Kurilla: My name is Steve Kurilla.  This year will be my fifth year teaching at Howard Gardner Multiple Intelligence Charter School. I am a graduate of Marywood University where I studied music education and classical percussion. Along with teaching in the classroom, I have taught private music lessons for 10 years in my home studio, I have worked with the Yamaha Sounds of Summer percussion workshop, the Keystone College Jazz Institute and recently helped lead an area high school marching band to the Atlantic Coast Championships completing the season with a top 10 finish.  Throughout the years, several of my private students have gone on to study at prestigious music schools such as Berklee college of Music and Temple University.

In conjunction with my teaching career, I am also a working musician; in recent years I have performed with the Northeast Pennsylvania Philharmonic, The Irish Tenors and Allentown Philharmonic. In the jazz and rock world, I’ve played in groups that have opened for musical legends such as Steely Dan, War, The Moody Blues, Rebe Jackson, and the Temptations. I also am an avid mountain biker and nature enthusiast so several of my weekend hours are usually spent exploring local state parks and nature preserves that are located in and around our area.
