About the Program
The Scranton Cultural Center Youth Theatre Program provides impactful experiences in the performing arts for children in K- 12th Grade (Ages 5-18). Our program offers opportunities for young performers with any level of experience to participate in full-scale musical productions, arts-based workshops and our annual summer camp. Our goal is to cultivate a love of the arts by encouraging our participants to engage in exciting theatrical opportunities and by fostering an inclusive arts community in which children can thrive by learning about themselves and the world around them. The SCCYTP is proudly accessible to all children, regardless of disability or financial means.

Younger Division - "Leap Day"
Accepting Registrations
Grades K-4 Every Leap Day, the Days of the Week have a day off and celebrate with a huge party at the House of Father Time. However, this Leap Day, nothing goes as planned. The Days feel overworked, demanding an 8th day be added to the week. Tuesday and Friday’s friendship is not what it used to be. And Mother Nature makes a surprising appearance which puts everyone on edge!
Middle Division - "Junie B. Jones"

Grades 5-8 Join Junie B. on her first day of first grade, where many changes are in store: Junie's best friend Lucille has found new best friends — and Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary's class, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard — and she may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament and a "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal," and first grade has never been more exciting! This show features many lovable characters and fun-filled songs, Junie B. Jones JR. will capture your audiences' and performers' hearts — just as the books captivated an entire generation of students.
Older Division - "Urinetown"

Grades 9-12 Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself! In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!
